A child was killed in a four-car crash in Loveland, Colo., on Tuesday, Dec. 16, Colorado State Patrol (CSP) said in a news release obtained by PEOPLE.
Around 12:30 p.m. local time, a box truck, a 2018 Lexus GX, a 2022 Kia Telluride, and a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado hauling a trailer crashed while driving on the northbound lanes of I-25, police said. The collision was a “secondary crash” that followed a medical emergency in which one vehicle had pulled to the side of the road to receive emergency medical attention.
A child in the Lexus was pronounced dead on the scene. The remaining three occupants in that vehicle, another child and two adults, were transported to a local hospital.
The box truck driver is being assessed for injuries. The occupants in the Kia and the pickup truck reportedly sustained no injuries, CSP said in the statement. None of the occupants’ and victims’ identities has been publicly shared.
