Could the Oilers trade Connor Ingram?

The Edmonton Oilers have had a pretty active trade deadline week. They notably acquired defenseman Connor Murphy from the Chicago Blackhawks for a second-round pick. The Oilers then made a second trade with the Blackhawks, as they brought in Jason Dickinson and Colton Dach and sent Andrew Mangiapane with a first-round pick the other way.

With these moves, the Oilers addressed two of their trade needs by bringing in a steady right-shot defenseman who can play top-four minutes and a veteran bottom-six center. Yet, when looking at their roster, it is fair to argue that they would benefit by making more moves. This is especially so when noting that the Oilers have had some struggles down the stretch.

Now, based on a new report, the Oilers are listening to trade offers for one of their goaltenders.

Oilers’ Connor Ingram Among Goaltenders on Trade Market Right Now

With it being trade deadline day, new updates about the trade market are naturally coming up. ESPN’s Kevin Weekes provided a big one on Friday morning, as he named multiple goaltenders who are being discussed in trade talks right now. Among the goalies named was Oilers netminder Connor Ingram.

“Early morning Rumblings; Per sources – Bobrovsky, Wallstedt, Ingram, Binnington, Stolarz and Skinner have been discussed in different potential trade scenarios. Goalie market is intriguing,” Weekes posted on X.

Since being called up to the Oilers’ NHL roster, Ingram has had mixed results with the Pacific Division club. In 17 appearances with the Oilers on the year, he has an 8-6-1 record, a 2.83 goals-against average, and a .890 save percentage. Overall, he has had his solid moments at times with the Oilers, but has also struggled down the stretch.

Ingram is currently in the middle of a cold streak with the Oilers, and the truth is in his stats. The 28-year-old goaltender has had under an .860 save percentage in seven out of his last eight appearances. With this, it makes sense that the Oilers are open to moving him and are likely trying to find an upgrade for the backup spot.

Oilers’ Ingram Could Be Used in Trade Package to Land Goalie Upgrade

When noting that both Ingram and Tristan Jarry have been struggling for the Oilers, it is fair to wonder if they are looking to upgrade at least at the backup position. With Jarry having an expensive cap hit and being a recent acquisition, it is likely that the Oilers will not be trading him. As a result, if the Oilers want to bring in a new goalie, Ingram would need to be the goalie who heads the other way.

Ingram has a $1.95 million cap hit and is a pending unrestricted free agent (UFA), so it would make sense if the Oilers included him in a trade package for another goalie. The Oilers need to send out money in any potential trade due to their limited cap space, so it will be interesting to see if they end up dealing Ingram from here.
