The Golden State Warriors continue to be without Stephen Curry, who is nursing a knee injury as the season approaches its final few games.
The latest game missed was a 127-113 loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night, as the Warriors remain in the No. 10 seed in the Western Conference.
After the game, Seth Curry shared his view on the reality of the team’s season as his older brother has faced a two-month absence.
While everyone in the Warriors organization has been biting their nails over a Curry comeback, the uncertainty has tested everyone involved.
“I mean, obviously everybody’s eager. I mean, we’re trying to win games and he helps us do that, obviously,” Seth said in the postgame presser. “But me, I want to get out there with him at least one time and experience that and put on a show for the fans. That’s what it’s all about, entertainment for the fans at the end of the day. ”
Stephen, who turned 38 in March, last played Jan. 30 against the Detroit Pistons, meaning he has missed 26 games in a row. He’ll miss the 27th tonight.
The Warriors have lost 17 of those matches and dropped to the last play-in spot, signifying just how vital their star point guard is to the team.
It didn’t help Golden State that Jimmy Butler was ruled out of the season after suffering an ACL injury. It meant that the Warriors lost the only two players averaging at least 20 points on their roster midway through the season.
A season of unexpected challenges for the Currys
For Seth, Stephen’s absence hurt more because the brothers had envisioned that this season was a long-awaited one when they finally shared the court for the first time in their careers.
Brought into the Bay Area in November, what should have been a wholesome reunion on the floor became a case of missing a chunk of games for both brothers.
But Seth still hopes that it is never too late for that to happen.
“So, everybody’s been wanting to see us out there on the court…” he said. “But it’s no pressure. If he gets out there and makes it happen, it makes it happen. If not, it’s not meant to be.”
The 35-year-old guard has appeared in just six games for the Warriors and has yet to experience a win in those games.
Warriors’ hopeful for imminent Curry return
Stephen was averaging 27.2 points per game this season before his injury. His tally was above his career average, showing that he still had the same elite production.
Head coach Steve Kerr has acknowledged that it has been hard playing without the face of the franchise all this while, and that void has seen them have an under .500 season.
Curry is expected to return as soon as this weekend against the Houston Rockets, but the medical staff remains cautious.
Curry will likely participate in his second five-on-five scrimmage of the week. When he did it on Tuesday, the Warriors were met with several positive signs.
Expect another encouraging Curry update to be announced before the weekend.
