War film fans don’t have much time left to watch a “masterpiece” on Netflix, as it is leaving the platform soon. There are many incredible war films released over the years. However, there are a few that are always mentioned as the best of the genre, and one of them is Saving Private Ryan.

The classic by Steven Spielberg has a strong 95% rating on the review website Rotten Tomatoes and is often cited as the greatest war film ever.

The synopsis on the film review website reads: “Captain John Miller (Tom Hanks) takes his men behind enemy lines to find Private James Ryan, whose three brothers have been killed in combat.

“Surrounded by the brutal realities of war, while searching for Ryan, each man embarks upon a personal journey and discovers their own strength to triumph over an uncertain future with honour, decency and courage.”

It’s unfortunate news for Netflix subscribers: the film will soon be removed from the streaming platform, with the last chance to watch it on May 12. This leaves subscribers with just under two weeks to watch the classic.

For those who haven’t watched the film before, it’s not short of glowing reviews from both critics and viewers, with one dubbing it “An absolute masterpiece”.

Another fan wrote: “The best World War II movie ever made! Even greater music!”

A third said: “One of the greatest war movies and maybe all movies of all time. You feel every emotion.”

Critics also praised the two-hour and 49-minute film that stars big names, including Tom Hanks, Edward Burns, Matt Damon, and Tom Sizemore.

The Times said: “The 24-minute sequence at the start of Steven Spielberg’s Second World War drama is one of the greatest pieces of combat cinema yet made.”

Cinapse wrote: “Not simply a 1990s classic or among the better prestige films of my generation, Saving Private Ryan is a stone cold masterpiece ranking among the very best war films of all time.”

Film fans can watch Saving Private Ryan on Netflix.
