Henry Cavill’s highly anticipated Highlander remake has received a thrilling update as production presses on in Scotland.
Drawing from the 1986 cult classic featuring Christopher Lambert, the sweeping fantasy action film follows immortal swordsman Connor MacLeod, a Highland warrior who discovers he cannot be slain.
The Witcher star Cavill is now taking on the iconic role in a fresh reboot directed by John Wick filmmaker Chad Stahelski.
After a brief setback caused by the actor suffering an on-set injury, filming is firmly back on track — and devotees of the beloved TV drama Outlander would do well to pay attention.
Much like the hugely popular fantasy series starring Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe, this grand tale unfolds across multiple timelines, encompassing a defining period of Scottish history, with the original even featuring the Fraser clan that appears in the show, reports the Scottish Daily Express.

On Sunday (3rd May), Cavill’s co-star Karen Gillan delighted fans with a tantalising glimpse behind the scenes in her most recent Instagram post.
“In my natural habitat…” she wrote in the caption, alongside a collection of photographs of herself in costume.
The post also showcased a significant filming location — the magnificent Eilean Donan Castle, where a crucial set piece is due to be shot.
Doctor Who and Jumanji star Gillan is playing Heather MacLeod, Connor’s first wife, who perishes of old age while the immortal warrior endures into the modern era. The Scottish star previously described filming near her hometown of Inverness as a “beautiful, full circle moment”.
Alongside Cavill and Gillan, the Highlander remake boasts an impressive A-list ensemble, including Gillan’s Guardians of the Galaxy co-star Dave Bautista, who takes on the role of Connor’s nemesis, the Kurgan.
Further bolstering the star-studded cast are Russell Crowe (Gladiator) as Connor’s mentor Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez, Jeremy Irons (The Lion King) as the leader of the Watchers, Djimon Hounsou (Gladiator) as a fellow immortal, and Marisa Abela (Industry) as Connor’s present-day love interest.
Fans were delighted to catch a glimpse of Cavill and Gillan’s upcoming project, though an official release date remains yet to be confirmed.
One follower replied: “You have no idea how excited I am for this film.”
“What a spectacular location!” someone else exclaimed. “So love the highlands and its mystique.”
And a final fan said: “Are you in highlander? If so, it just got better!” Stay tuned for more Highlander updates over the coming months.
