Luke Thompson’s next role is set to send film enthusiasts into a frenzy.
Bridgerton favourite Luke Thompson is joining forces with Keira Knightley for his next project — though some fans may be left disappointed.
The British actor is best recognised for portraying Benedict Bridgerton in the smash-hit Netflix series, having recently taken centre stage opposite Yerin Ha as Sophie Baek in the beloved period drama’s fourth season.
Having led the hugely popular Shondaland production, Thompson is now heading to the West End alongside Black Doves star Knightley and Stephen Dillane (Game of Thrones) in a stage adaptation of the acclaimed 2006 German film, The Lives of Others.
Sadly, this means fans outside of London may face a considerable journey to catch Thompson’s eagerly awaited next performance, reports the Mirror.
Adapted and directed by Robert Icke, the production centres on a writer and actress being covertly monitored by a Stasi officer in 1984 East Berlin.
Widely regarded as one of the finest films of the 21st century to date, the original garnered numerous prestigious accolades, including the Academy Award for Best International Film and the BAFTA for Best Film Not in the English Language.
The new play’s producer Sonia Friedman described the original film by director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck as “haunting” and “completely masterful”.
She added in a statement: “There is no one better than Robert Icke to bring this to life onstage. He has this rare ability to combine huge ideas with real emotional truth, and I know he and the company will find a way to realise it that feels both unexpected and completely thrilling.
“To have a company led by Keira Knightley, Stephen Dillane and Luke Thompson at the Adelphi Theatre this autumn makes it all the more special.
“And in an extraordinary coup, we’re incredibly excited that Max Richter will be composing new music for the production,” Friedman also confirmed. “Max is one of the great composers of our time, and his work has a depth and emotional truth that has the potential to break our hearts.”
Richter most recently penned the score for the award-winning film Hamnet.
The Lives of Others looks set to be essential viewing for theatre enthusiasts, provided it stays true to the much-loved original film.
One IMDb user hailed it as “the best film released in years” and “virtually flawless”.
Another described it as a “gripping story” boasting “one of the most powerful endings” they had ever witnessed, remarking: “So powerful, so beautifully crafted. A true gem.”
Tickets for the forthcoming production are now available from £25 for a late 2026-27 run, which will open on 29th October and conclude on 9th January.
