Dolphins Named Potential Suitor to Poach Star From Division Rival

The Miami Dolphins find themselves in a bit of a predicament after trading star wide receiver Jaylen Waddle to the Miami Dolphins.

After signing former Green Bay Packers quarterback Malik Willis to a three-year, $67.5 million contract early in NFL free agency, the Dolphins have no one for him to throw the football to. Waddle being traded to the Broncos was a surprise and Miami fans aren’t happy.

While the current offense doesn’t look good, the Dolphins have time to fix the issue. There are still options to consider in free agency and potentially on the trade market. Miami could also target wide receiver talent in the 2026 NFL Draft next month.

Jon Eric-Sullivan, the team’s new general manager, will need to get busy adding weapons for Willis.

Keeping that in mind, a new suggestion has been made for the Dolphins. This suggestion would entail Miami poaching a star wide receiver from an AFC East rival.

Miami Dolphins Connected to Potential Wide Receiver Option

Earlier this offseason, the New England Patriots made the decision to cut ties with their No. 1 wide receiver, Stefon Diggs. He remains a free agent. Could the Dolphins consider signing him to become Willis’ top target?

That is exactly what Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox has suggested.

When taking a look at the best options for wide receiver-needy teams, Knox suggested Miami as a Diggs suitor. He also named the Tennessee Titans as a team to watch.

“Diggs would be a sensible target for a team like Miami, which no longer has a No. 1 receiver to pair with new quarterback Malik Willis,” Knox wrote. “His past experience with offensive coordinator Brian Daboll makes him an interesting option for the Tennessee Titans and second-year signal-caller Cam Ward.”

Diggs is coming off of a 2025 season that saw him play a key role in helping lead the Patriots to the Super Bowl. New England ended up losing in the big game to the Seattle Seahawks.

What Would Stefon Diggs Bring to the Dolphins’ Offense?

For quite a few years, Diggs has been one of the better wide receivers in the NFL. He is now 32 years old, but remained highly productive for the Patriots last season.

Throughout the course of the 2025 campaign, Diggs caught 85 passes for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns in 17 games.

Even on a short-term deal, whether that be one or two years, Diggs would provide the Dolphins with a legitimate No. 1 target. He’s well worth the money, which Spotrac projects to be at around $13.8 million per season.

At this point in the offseason, Miami is running out of wide receiver options. Taking a chance on Diggs would be a wise decision.

Bringing in Diggs, as well as drafting a wide receiver in the early rounds, could help turn the Dolphins’ offense around for the 2026 season.
