Justin Termine said Jeremy Lin Was Harder to Interview Than LeBron James
The NBA All-Star Weekend 2012 in Orlando featured some of the league’s biggest names, including LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and Kevin Durant. But according to NBA insider Justin Termine, the most in-demand figure that weekend was neither an MVP nor an All-Star starter.
Termine, speaking on his show, recalled that securing an interview with Jeremy Lin during his rise was significantly more difficult than sitting down with James. “I get down there, and it was actually harder to secure an interview with Jeremy Lin than LeBron James,” Termine said, describing his first All-Star assignment.
He added that he was given extended access to James without interruption. “They gave me LeBron James for about 10 minutes, 12 minutes… I almost ran out of questions… Nobody put any pressure like, ‘Hey, you got to wrap it up.’” The contrast, he explained, highlighted how Lin’s sudden rise had reshaped the media landscape during that moment in the NBA season.

Lin’s popularity surge came during his breakout run with the New York Knicks, where he went from an undrafted guard to a global sensation within weeks. Despite not being selected for the main All-Star Game, his presence at the weekend created unprecedented demand.
Termine described a much different experience when attempting to interview Lin. “They made me pick up a recorder, leave the set, walk with Jeremy Lin for about a minute and a half,” he said. “There are hundreds of people surrounding us. That’s how difficult it was.”
He went further, stating, “He was bigger than LeBron, David Stern, Kevin Durant.” The comment reflects the scale of Lin’s cultural impact at the time, as his performances had captured global attention beyond traditional NBA audiences.
Lin’s on-court production supported the attention. In the weeks leading up to All-Star Weekend, he averaged 22.5 points and 8.7 assists across 12 starts, helping New York to a 9-3 record. His emergence also coincided with increased national and international media coverage, making him one of the most visible figures in the sport despite limited experience.
Although he participated in events like the Rising Stars Challenge, Lin played a limited role during the weekend itself, logging under 10 minutes as he managed fatigue following his rapid rise.
LeBron James vs Stephen Curry Matchup Outlook

While Termine’s story revisits a past All-Star moment, current attention has shifted to a key late-season matchup between the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors.
The Lakers enter the game shorthanded. Alongside LeBron James returning from foot injury management, the team will be without Luka Doncic (hamstring), Austin Reaves (oblique), and Jaxson Hayes (foot).
That places a significant offensive burden on James, who recently recorded 30 points and 15 assists in a similar situation against Dallas. With limited shot creation from the supporting cast, the Lakers are expected to rely heavily on his scoring and playmaking.
On the other side, the Warriors are fighting for play-in positioning, increasing the stakes at Chase Center. Stephen Curry is listed as questionable with knee soreness, but his potential availability could shift the game’s balance.
Curry recently returned from a 27-game absence and showed immediate impact, scoring efficiently in limited minutes. If active, his presence, combined with Golden State’s ball movement led by Draymond Green, could challenge a depleted Lakers defense.
With both teams facing different pressures, Los Angeles managing injuries and Golden State battling for postseason survival, the matchup carries significant implications as the regular season nears its conclusion.
