The Toronto Raptors are back in the playoffs, and Scottie Barnes made sure to set the tone immediately.
Toronto locked up the No. 5 seed in the Eastern Conference with a dominant 136-101 win over the Brooklyn Nets in the regular-season finale, CBC reports. Barnes led the charge with 18 points, 12 rebounds, and 12 assists, recording his ninth career triple-double and capping off a breakout campaign in style.
After the game, Barnes did not just reflect on the moment. He looked ahead, especially for teammates who have not experienced playoff basketball yet.
“Just be ready for the physicality. You got to love this shit. This sh-t fun,” Barnes said. “Be ready to go and try to win. I think our guys, we’re going to be ready to go out there and try to win. I got a lot of faith in our guys, and I think we can do it.”
That message captured both excitement and urgency as Toronto prepares for a first-round matchup with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Barnes Leads Raptors Back to Playoff Stage
Barnes’ performance against Brooklyn reflected the growth he showed all season. He finished the year with career highs across the board, including points, rebounds, assists, and defensive production, while playing a central role in one of the league’s top defenses.
More importantly, he helped guide a team that many did not expect to reach this stage.
“From training camp, we believed it,” Sportsnet reports. “We were confident we could get in this position,” Barnes said. “The season is always going to have some ups and downs, but if you get through it, push through it.”
Toronto finished 46-36, a significant jump after a 30-win season the year before. The turnaround did not happen overnight. Barnes pointed to the group’s resilience through difficult stretches as a defining factor.
“I thought we did a great job of pushing through it,” he said. “Stuff happens, you can try to go out there and win the next game.”
That mindset now carries into a postseason test against a Cavaliers team with established playoff experience.
Raptors’ Core Embraces Opportunity
RJ Barrett, who scored 26 points in the clinching win, echoed Barnes’ confidence and emphasized the team’s collective growth.
“From when I got here, I would always be one of the ones saying, when you do things the right way, the results are going to come,” Barrett said. “We’ve been doing things the right way. We’ve been working, building. This is the result of that.”
Barrett, playing for his hometown team, will return to the playoffs with a new group that has quickly developed chemistry despite significant roster changes.
“I don’t think many people thought we were gonna be here,” he added, per The Athletic “I’m just very proud of this group, how hard we work, how together we are.”
That unity showed throughout the Nets game, where multiple players contributed. Brandon Ingram added 25 points and nine rebounds, while the Raptors controlled the pace from start to finish.
There are still concerns heading into the series. Starting point guard Immanuel Quickley exited early due to right hamstring tightness, leaving his status worth monitoring as the postseason approaches.
Still, the bigger picture remains clear. Toronto has taken a major step forward.
After missing the playoffs since 2022, the Raptors now enter a new chapter built around Barnes and a young, evolving core. His message to embrace the moment, and the physical nature of playoff basketball, sets the foundation.
The next test comes quickly. But if Barnes’ confidence holds true, Toronto believes it belongs.
