It’s been a great year for film, but it is by no means over yet. There have been many incredible releases from the likes of Sinners to Celine Song’s Materialists and most recently, Die My Love, starring Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson. Alongside new releases, I have been working my way through an ever-growing watchlist and have discovered some hidden gems, such as The Souvenir and Tangerine. But there are some specific dates marked out on my calendar that I cannot wait to arrive at. These are the new releases I’m eagerly anticipating.

The Housemaid is an upcoming psychological thriller film directed by Paul Feig from a screenplay by Rebecca Sonnenshine, based on Freida McFadden’s 2022 novel of the same name. It stars Sydney Sweeney as a young woman with a troubled past who becomes the live-in housemaid for a wealthy family, but she soon discovers dark secrets beneath the surface. It also stars Amanda Seyfried, Brandon Sklenar, Michele Morrone, and Elizabeth Perkins. The film’s synopsis reads: “Hoping for a fresh start, a young woman becomes a live-in maid for a wealthy couple who harbour sinister secrets.”

Marty Supreme is a 2025 American sports comedy-drama film produced and directed by Josh Safdie, who co-wrote it with Ronald Bronstein. It is loosely inspired by American table tennis player Marty Reisman. Starring and co-produced by Timothée Chalamet, the film also features Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A’zion, Kevin O’Leary, Tyler Okonma, Abel Ferrara and Fran Drescher in supporting roles. A few have pinned Chalamet to win the lead actor Oscar for his performance in this film, so I am incredibly excited to watch it. A summary of the film’s plot reads: “Marty Mauser, a young man with a dream no one respects, goes to hell and back in pursuit of greatness.” Over on X, reviewers who have watched early previews are already billing it a “masterpiece”.

This is the film I am most excited about. Indiewire critic David Ehrlich called Sentimental Value “a layered masterpiece”. Sentimental Value is a comedy drama film directed by Joachim Trier, who co-wrote it with Eskil Vogt. It stars Renate Reinsve, Stellan Skarsgård, Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas and Elle Fanning. The film’s plot reads: “Sisters Nora and Agnes are reunited with their eccentric father, Gustav, a famous director who disappeared long ago. He offers Nora the lead role in his new film.”
