  • Daina Jenkins, 61, shared a viral TikTok about her plastic surgery journey
  • The video is sparking conversation among people over 60 and Gen Z users alike
  • Speaking exclusively with PEOPLE, Jenkins said she was inspired by Dolly Parton’s perspective on cosmetic surgery

When Daina Jenkins set out to “bust a few myths” about why women get plastic surgery, she was met with a viral response.

On Nov. 2, Jenkins, 61, posted the initial video on TikTok. “I’m 61 years old, and I’m here to bust a few myths on why women get plastic surgery, or at least why this woman did,” the mother and grandmother began the video, which is sparking conversation among women 60 and older and Gen Z viewers alike.

“Myth number one, trying to recapture your youth and be 20 again. Absolutely not. I earned the wrinkles that are on my hands. I don’t do Botox. I’m not trying to eradicate all my wrinkles. I just want to look the best I can at any age,” Jenkins, who is from Texas, continued.

Jenkins shared with PEOPLE exclusively that she sought inspiration for her cosmetic surgeries from Dolly Parton. “I knew in my early twenties it would be something I would want to do when the time comes,” Jenkins said. “I remember seeing an interview with the country singer Dolly Parton. And she made the statement ‘if I see something bagging, sagging or dragging….I’m going to nip it, tuck it or suck it.’ And I thought me too, Dolly!”

Jenkins told PEOPLE that she had a an upper and lower blepharoplasty at 40, a “mini face and neck lift” when she was 42, a breast augmentation at 46, and most recently a deep plane face and neck lift and liposuction under the chin for her 61st birthday.

She also explained her reasoning for skipping Botox, which she mentioned in her video. “The reason I don’t use Botox is I like to have some wrinkles and movement in my face when I talk,” she tells PEOPLE exclusively. “It’s just a personal preference. I’m not a Botox kind of girl…but a lot of women use it and look amazing. So I’m not against it. It’s just not something I care to do.”

In her viral video, Jenkins explained she received procedures from Dr. Nik Rana at Rana Facial Plastic Surgery in Frisco, Texas.

“I’m so happy with my results, and that’s why I want to get on here and share it with other women who are thinking about that choice, but get ready for criticism, but you know what? When you go to a good doctor, nobody’s gonna know,” Jenkins said in the video.

The 61-year-old went on to share that she chose to document her journey with plastic surgery for “women to feel they have a place to come and talk about it and question it.”

“And also to those women who don’t do it, good for you too. It’s all about your choice. Do what makes you happy. At the end of the day, that’s what matters. Your family, your friends, what’s in your heart and how you feel,” Jenkins said. She then pointed out before and after images.

“I think people just expect women to stop being girls after their 30s.. nothing wrong with wanting to look or feel your best at any age❤️,” one user commented. “I wanna be you when I grow up,” another chimed in.

“I want to share my belief which is that you should age on your terms,” Jenkins said of her digital presence.

“So at the end of the day you have to do what makes you feel beautiful. And women that choose not to get plastic surgery, I think that’s wonderful too! I There is still such a stigma and even some women are shamed if she admits to plastic surgery,” Jenkins tells PEOPLE. “I think it should be the opposite you should be proud of however you choose to age and be transparent with other women. And I wanted to share that it’s more affordable than they think. Some women think it’s just out of their reach. So I wanted to let them know all of the details and make their own decision.”

When asked what advice she has for women seeking a similar journey, she tells PEOPLE it is important that everyone “do their own research.”

“I was looking for a plastic surgeon for at least two years that was double board certified. So the doctor I chose was Dr. Nik Rana of Rana Plastic Surgery because he only does faces. And his education on the face and neck alone was impressive! I also chose him because he was fairly close to me so if I had any problems he would be not far away,” Jenkins shares.

“And if you can afford it I highly recommend using what is called a beauty broker to help you find a plastic surgeon. There is so much that can be faked on some plastic surgeons websites like before and after pics. And you may not be able to see if that surgeon has any medical judgments against them. That is where a beauty broker is so helpful,” she added.
